Odontodactylus scyllarus Peacock Mantis Shrimp |
9 Jan '11 |
Always had a fascination with these stomapods, so I got this medium size specimen and currently he resides in my 20g refugium. It's been 8 months, and he is doing great. Eats mussel, clam, shrimp, lance fish. He made a nice burrow, but every once in a while he tears it down and start anew. |

Stenopus hispidus Boxer shrimp |
16 Jan '11 |
A tank without a boxer shrimp is not a reef tank in my opinion. This guy is awesome. He owns the tank. He still owns the tank, 8 months later. |

Calcinus elegans Blue knuckled hermit crab |
14 Jan '11 |
Got 5 blue knuckled hermit crabs. These crabs are dodgy, then have killed and taken the shells of two turbo snails, and three other large ones I had. 20 Nov '11 - During the past couple of months something has been killing off ALL my hermit crabs, even the hitchhiker crabs on the LR. |

Lysmata debelius Fire shrimp |
16 Jan '11 | Intensely red, these fire shrimps are pretty stunning. Mine seems quite healthy, though a bit reclusive. |

Turbo spp. Turbo snail |
14 Jan '11 | Got 2 Turbo snails. |

Lysmata amboinensis Pacific scarlet cleaner shrimp |

Eucidaris tribuloides Pencil urchin |
18 Apr '11 |
This little carnivorous creature will reside in my sump as companion for my mantis shrimp. 2 days after I wrote the above, I found it... hollowed out. Mantis killed it and had a $10 meal :( I was not thinking. |

Protoreaster nodosus Chocolate-chip starfish |
19 Jun '11 |
I have read several recommendations on pruning Xenia - one of them was to use a Chocolate chip starfish to eat the excess Xenia and transfer it to the sump and target feed it in between. Will try this as my Xenia is growing out of bounds. I actually changed my mind. This star fish is living in my main display, and has not yet eaten anything other than the food I feed it, as it refuses to eat Xenia. 20 Nov '11 - Returned this starfish to the LFS since it decided one day to eat the glove polyps. |

Mespilia globulus Blue tuxedo urchin |
19 Jun '11 | This time I got the urchin I wanted to keep my coralline algae at bay. |

Angaria spp Angaria snail |
19 Jun '11 | Got three new snails to help out the Turbo snails. |

Ciliopagurus strigatus Striped Hermit crab |
19 Jun '11 |
Three striped hermit crabs were added to help with the cleanup of the excess food wastes due to the bigger bioload compared to when I started. These hermits seem to be very good tank mates, and does not harm anything. |

Tridacna crocea Crocea Clam |
16 Jul '11 |
I wanted to add a clam since my first tank I started in Canada, however I never felt my water quality was really good enough. This has changed and I am ready to try one. Clam died 26 February 2012. Not sure why... |

Ophioderma spp Short spined serpent star |
16 Jul '11 | My last brittle star died due to unknown reasons. Time to see if this one will fare better - there should be enough waste food for it to scavenge. |

Trochus spp. Trochus snail |
16 Jul '11 | Seems like between the crabs and Rufus (Boxer shrimp), my snails are being eaten. Needed some new ones to help keep the microalgae at bay. |

Eudistylia polymorpha Giant Feather Duster Worm |
30 Jul '11 |
I got three giant feather duster worms, nested deep inside the sand bed. Busy setting up a phytoplankton reactor to feed them. The one died due to being mishandled at the LFS, the other one died a couple of weeks ago. Still waiting for my microscope, got the rest of the plankton reactor equipment to soon start culturing my plankton. Correction - the second one did not die, just discarded its crown. A new crown has been grown and it is smaller as the previous one, obviously an attempt at regulating its food intake. I need to feed it better. |

Flogranella sp. Red hard-tube feather dusters |
22 Oct '11 | I loved the colour of this rock of feather duster worms. Since I am trying to feed lice Nannochloropsis I am hoping that this would be sufficient to sustain these critters. |
