90g Reef Tank v2 - Coral

This tank will have a mix of softies and stony corals.  In general I prefer the look of soft corals, but I like the colours of stony corals.

  Name Date Acquired Notes

Xenia spp.

Pulsing Xenia

16 Jan '11

Since the last Xenia I had grown so spectacularly, I decided to try my hand at some again.

Rhodactis spp.

Mushroom

16 Jan '11 A small colony of mushrooms.

Pachyclavularia spp.

Green star polyps

9 Mar '11 These green star polyps have been happy ever since I introduced them.  That was until they decided to recede and die. :(

Zoanthus spp.

Zoanthids

This rock contains about 4 different coloured zoanthids.

Undescribed

Yellow Polyps

I love the way yellow polyps spread, so I had to get this colony.

Discosoma spp.

Various mushrooms

19 Mar '11 This mushroom rock contains 4 different kinds of mushrooms.

Sarcophyton spp.

Leather coral

30 Jan '11

The leather was very unhappy for the first two weeks.  I relocated it temporarily to the refugium where it covered.  It is now back in my main display tank and quite happy.

20 Nov '11 - It lost its base, and now it seems very unhappy.  I think my tank is too crowded / small for it.

Xenia spp.

Pulsing Xenia

9 Mar '11

This Xenia surely looks better than the first colony I purchased.

20 Nov '11 - Needless to say, every three weeks I need to prune about 1/3 of the Xenia - it grows like weed.

Spirobranchus giganteus on Porites

Christmas tree worm on Porites

9 Apr '11 I know these are hard animals to keep, but I had good success with the specimen I kept in South Africa.  I hope I can replicate that success here as well.

Seriatopora caliendrum

Club finger coral

18 Apr '11 This small club finger coral got my attention as I used to have a similar one before in my 145g reef tank.  Under the MH lights they glow a neon green colour.
Zoanthus spp.
Zoanthid
16 Jul '11 Since my first Zoanthid rock has been dying steadily I purchased another rock.  Hopefully I can keep this one happy.
Euphyllia spp.
Frogspawn coral
16 Jul '11 I saw a beautiful but expensive Euphyllia head at my LFS - at $99 it is not cheap.  But I got a little bonus - a small pencil urchil the size of a small marble was hiding on its side.
Protopalythoa spp
Zoanthids
16 Jul '11 These zoanthids are maybe not the prettiest, but I love how they react to being fed directly - almost like Venus Fly Traps.

Lobophyllia flabelliformi

Open brain coral

28 Aug '11

I always wanted one of these LPS corals.  Just do not know how to feed it yet...

20 Nov '11 - only needed to stimulate it once, now every night it turns inside out and feeds on mysis.

Pachyclavularia spp.

Green star polyops

28 Aug '11

I've never been able to keep green star polyps alive in any of my tanks in Canada.  This is my last try because I believe the other failed attempts were due to Magnesium problems.

20 Nov '11 - this coral seems finally extremely happy and is doing very well.

Plerogyra sinuosa

Bubble coral

28 Aug '11 I believe my tank is now ready for SPS and LPS.  This coral is doing great thus far, and I will attempt to feed it regularly.

Duncanopsammia Axifuga

Duncan Coral

22 Oct '11 Having never had any experience with this LPS before, I am keen to see how well it does in my tank as I am looking for some diversity in the specimens I keep.

Tubipora spp

Pipe Organ Coral

19 Nov '11 This coral has a magnificent fluorescence when viewed from top.

Euphyllia spp.

Hammer Coral

19 Nov '11 This beautiful pale pink hammer coral augments my LPS collection
