90g Reef Tank - Coral

This tank will have a mix of softies and stony corals.  In general I prefer the look of soft corals, but I like the colours of stony corals.

Alcyonium

Colt coral

15 Mar '10

My last Colt Coral was a huge success and I had to frag it 3-4 times due to its tremendous growth.  This is one of my favourite corals.  It only took one night and the next morning all the polyps were fully expanded.  The last Colt coral I had took 3 weeks before opening up.  This implies to me that my husbandry techniques are improving.

Pachyclavularia spp.

Green star polyps

26 Mar '10

The green star polyps have not extended its polyps since I got it.  This is a concern form me as I am unsure what the cause might be.  It has good flow, and I recently moved it to a lower light area.

After 3 weeks the polyps opened up - but the coral is 100% brown.  I think it bleached...

Anthelia spp.

Waiving hand coral

26 Mar '10 For the first three days this coral was not really happy.  However the past couple of days the polyps have extended nicely and it seems in a much better shape.

Discosoma spp.

Orange Mushrooms

26 Mar '10 These very expensive mushrooms were quite unhappy the first two to three days, but now they seem much better.  Two polyps broke off and seem to be doing OK in the corner of my tank.

Zoanthus spp.

Green/Orange Zoanthids

26 Mar '10

Once again, these Zoanthids were very unhappy in the beginning.  I can only attribute it to the fact that the LFS's salinity was 1.017 and my tank is at 1.026.  They seem much better now.

These Zoanthids are going through various phases of being closed and partially open.  I have relocated them many times, but they do not seem very happy.

Zoanthus spp.

Orange Zoanthids

26 Mar '10 This is most probably the most expensive Zoanthids I ever purchased - a small group of about 9 polyps was $100.  In hindsight I should not have bought them - this is just crazy.  But they are quite good looking.

Undescribed Zoanthid

Yellow Polyps

10 Apr '10 I have a fascination with these polyps ever since I introduced my first specimen in my 145g reef tank.  This colony is not yet as happy as it should be, but I think I found the right spot for it now.

Discosoma spp.

Green Mushrooms

10 Apr '10 The intense green colouration of these mushrooms attracted me immediately.  They seem to be doing great and are fully open.

Xenia spp.

Pulsing Xenia

25 Apr '10

I could not resist these pulsing Xenia that seemed very healthy at the LFS.  My intent is to have a (mostly) softies only tank.

They have moderate flow and strong lighting.

Clavularia spp.

Glove polyp

25 Apr '10 These Glove polyps have interesting green centers, making them very attractive high up my tank's rock work.  They were full of algae but my new sea hare took care of that.

Cladiella spp.

Cauliflower Colt Coral

25 Apr '10 This coral looks similar to my existing Colt coral, but its polyps are smaller.

Euphyllia spp.

Hammer coral

12 Jun '10 My first stony coral.  I had to use a lot of epoxy to mount it like that, but I think it looks good where it is right now.  Seems happy too.
