480g Predator Tank - Tank Progression

It is always nice to see how one's tank progressed over a period of time. This allows one to see progress much better than otherwise:

  Title Date Of Picture Notes
Tank Initial tank setup 4 Apr '07

This was from when the tank was initially delivered. I like the finish on the wood, and in general the cabinet is rather neat.

Tank Adding coral sand 13 Apr '07

Added 85kg of coral sand (all I had). This is clearly not nearly enough to make a DSB. More sand needed...

Tank Filled with saltwater 31 May '07

Looking at the dates of the pictures it is clear that the tank broke a couple of days after the picture above. It took several weeks for the LFS to rebuild a new tank and stand, and for me to make another 2000L of RO water.

This time I added an additional 270kg of crushed coral.

The water is cloudy because the salt is still dissolving. The probe visible is my Hanna used to check the water parameters.

The tank was cloudy for 4 days.

Tank Live rock added 9 Jun '07

Couple of days later, after the water parameters stabilised I added the cured LR that I kept in a drum.

I also borrowed an old 150W MH from the LFS to keep the LR alive while I am waiting for my Infinity pendant.

The aquascaping clearly shows the beginning of the drop-off motive.

Tank 125g's LR and livestock moved over 12 Jun '07

After much research I decided it would be safe to move all my livestock over at once, since I am taking the live rock with.

I forgot that the fluidised sand bed filter and DSB was not coming along, hence the Nitrite reading of 0.05 to 0.1mg/L for a week or two. This had no ill effects on any livestock.

The skimmer started working nicely.

The view from my living room.

And a closeup from the dining room.

Tank Foxface and corals added 9 Jul '07

This is the most recent picture. I added another 150W MH as temporary light while I am waiting for my order to arrive.

I moved some coral from my 145g reed tank, and added a Foxface.

I have good algae growth and lots of copepods on the glass.

An extra Tunze powerhead was added, and the four black corners were added to the tank.

One can clearly see the light falloff as one moves to the left of the LR (reef). I will keep the same effect when the new lights arrive.

Tank Living room view 9 Jul '07

Living room view. I like the feeling of openness.

Tank End view 9 Jul '07

My favourite perspective - from the side looking 2.7m along the tank's length.

Tank Full tank view, dining room side 9 Jul '07

And a full tank view showing the cabinet and tank in its surrounding environment. I will still neaten the equipment section to the right (it will be hidden in a cabinet), and the electrical wiring will be fixed once the light pendant arrives.

Full tank 480g Full tank view, dining room side 9 Sep '07 This photo shows the new Sfigoli light pendant, and some new corals.
Full tank 480g Full tank view, living room side 9 Sep '07 Another view of the Italian light pendant. It is clear from this picture that the Leather coral is very happy.
Side view 480g Close up, living room side 9 Sep '07 I have moved the anemone from my 145g tank since it was stinging all my coral.
Side view 480g Close up, dining room side 9 Sep '07 The algae is much less, with agressive use of Rowaphos, lots of cheato and a good clean up crew it is now manageable.
End view 480g End view 9 Sep '07 The flow caused by the Tunze's create interesting shapes in the sand bed.

As can be seen on the left, I have added a 150W MH Giesemann pendant for the Colt coral which I fragged from my 145g Reef tank.  It is doing very well and is about 1.5 times the size when I originally fragged it.

A couple of new fish can be seen too.
