180g Species Tank - Fish

I know I stocked rather quickly, but the fact that my water parameters were never bad together with the cured live rock and live sand in my tank, and also realising that the small fish only help to consume uneaten food from the mess the Clown Trigger makes, I considered it acceptable:

  Name Date Acquired Notes
Cephalopholis miniata

Cephalopholis miniata

Miniatus Grouper

I always wanted a Miniatus Grouper - they look absolutely awesome.  So I was quite surprised when  I discovered this little grouper in my LFS's tank. I decided to take a chance and put it in my main display.

It has been doing great - eating well.  Initially it was a bit cryptic but now seems much more curious especially when I want to take photos.

Clown Trigger

Balistoides conspicillum

Clown Triggerfish

The little mofo that got so frustrated with the QT tank that it was a huge relief for me when I finally managed to move him to his new tank.

He still paces up and down sometimes, but he did that in the 480g tank too so I am not really concerned.  He eats well, and does not even notice the other smaller fish.

I introduced the smaller fish since they are much much faster than the Clown, hence can outpace him before being eaten.

Sixline Wrasse

Pseudocheilinus hexataenia

Sizline Wrasse

One of the small clean up crew to help consume the uneaten wastes produced by mofo.

This is a somewhat shy but beautiful fish that really spices up the visual appeal of the tank.

Sixbar Wrasse

Thalassoma hardwicke

Sixbar Wrasse

Another cleanup crew member.  I originally wanted to get a Lunar wrasse, but was told they are too aggressive and might hurt the Clown Trigger.  Since this wrasse is from the same Genus, but supposedly less aggressive I thought it just makes sense to have one.

It is a very bold fish that constantly swims with the Clown Trigger.

Falco Hawkfish

Cirrhitichthys oxycephalus

Coral Hawkfish

The wrasses alone did not do a good enough job of eating the larger wastes.  This is where this cool hawkfish comes to the rescue.  He has a rather large mouth and great appetite, so he is really useful as a cleanup crew member.

It seems as if he and the Miniatus grouper has some territorial fights, but most of the time they manage to live in harmony.
